Family Energy Fair

In response to widespread and urgent local need for education and information on energy efficiency in buildings, the Brattleboro Area chapter of Habitat for Humanity is holding Brattleboro’s first Family Energy Fair on Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 10 AM to 3:30 PM at Integrated Solar Applications, 121 Spring Tree Road (off Putney Road, past the Marina Restaurant).

The Family Energy Fair will be a fund raiser with a blend of exhibits, activities for children, food, music and dance, a silent auction, and three one-hour educational sessions:

  • Home Energy Audits & Effective Home Improvements (Keith Abbott, Thermal House)
  • Got Mold?  Energy Efficiency and Moisture Management (Peter Yost, BuildingGreen)
  • Practical Renewable Energy Systems (Andy Cay, Integrated Solar)

Family Energy FairLocal businesses and organizations with energy-saving products, systems, and services will be on hand to demonstrate the real and immediate benefits of homeowner investments in energy efficiency. A light barbecue will be offered at lunchtime. The afternoon will feature a dance called by Andy Davis, barbershop music by “The Four Flushers,” all powered by local sunshine and talent, and boat rides on the Steamboat “Solace.” Fun for children will include activities such as face painting, crafts with the Asian Cultural Center, and more. The day-long event will provide a great opportunity for family fun, education, information gathering and networking.

Proceeds from the Family Energy Fair will be used by Brattleboro Area Habitat for Humanity to build affordable, high performance, Net Zero Energy Homes for qualifying families.

Our families, our community, and our nation need to rise to the challenges of a new energy reality and global climate change. We can take the first steps together right here in Brattleboro on October 4th.
