BAHFH believes that as a country and as a world, we are at a critical intersection of global warming, the end of cheap fossil fuels, and the need for affordable housing. In the interest of acting locally and having an impact globally, we have committed to build “Net Zero Energy” (NZE) homes.”
NZE homes are good for the environment, designed to achieve a high level of environmental sensitivity in the use of energy, water, materials and land. These are also homes that are good for the occupants, with an enhanced indoor environmental quality.

Furthermore, we believe that our homeowners are disproportionately impacted by energy costs and that our pursuit of Net Zero Energy Housing provides them a more secure fuure.
Our last house, #7, has a high-efficiency building envelope and active solar panel heating with seasonal thermal mass storage. House #8 will be a Net Zero Energy home. Our fall Family Energy Fair on October 4 will feature information on the technologies we are utilizing in the newest house. (Please see “News and Events” for information on that event.)
